“In any drug case, something that’s going to be important to a prosecutor; as well as my client, is going to be possible treatment. And that treatment can look a lot different depending on whether you were charged with a misdemeanor or a felony. If you are charged with a misdemeanor, such as Possession of Marijuana, treatment may be something as simple as a drug education course. If you are charged with a felony drug offense, something such as cocaine or heroine, treatment’s going to look a lot different. And a lot of that can involve possible rehab, or possible referral to what we call the short program; or drug court here in Travis county. Felony drug court in Travis county is typically a year long, but it can be longer. Depending on how someone is doing, that could extend their commitment to drug court. During drug court, they’re typically going to be asked to comply in any random drug test; urine analysis. As well as, complete and participate any type of treatment. Sometimes it may be getting a sponsor to help you.”
