“A common criminal charge that I see accompanying a domestic or a family violence charge, is what we call: interference with emergency phone call. An emergency phone call is a phone call that can be made, and is usually made to police officers, it could be, or EMS or any other medical services. And so, often times when something gets out of control and somebody is trying to call the police, somebody may try to stop that person from calling the police by taking their phone or pulling the cord from the wall. That would be considered interfering with an emergency phone call. And that could result in an additional family violence related charge.”
